Shenzhen Remote Product Production | Field Guide

3200KStudio field guide

A remote shoot becomes predictable when the product, buyer questions, channel formats, sample route, review authority, and delivery files are defined before the camera turns on. This checklist shows what an overseas brand and a Shenzhen production team should confirm together.

What must be clear before production

  • Which sample version is arriving
  • Which SKUs and accessories must appear
  • What the buyer needs to understand
  • Where every asset will be used
  • Which claims are approved
  • Who can approve creative decisions
  • How the sample will reach Shenzhen
  • Which masters and derivatives are required

The eight production gates

The gates are ordered to prevent expensive rework. A visual reference is useful only after the underlying product and channel decisions are known.

01

Identify the exact sample state

State whether the studio will receive a final retail unit, an engineering sample, a cosmetic prototype, or an incomplete pre-production sample. Note missing labels, temporary materials, unfinished colors, packaging changes, and any functions that are not ready to demonstrate.

A prototype can still be photographed or filmed, but the production plan must distinguish what is real, what must be hidden, and what may require retouching or 3D support. Otherwise an early sample can accidentally become the public reference for a product that later changes.

02

Map every SKU, color, component, and package

List the hero SKU and every variation that needs its own image, clip, or graphic. Include accessories, inserts, charging parts, replacement components, bundles, retail packaging, and the quantities being sent.

This prevents a common remote-production failure: the main product arrives, but a small component needed for a comparison image, unboxing sequence, or feature demonstration remains at the factory.

03

Write buyer questions before shot names

Start with questions such as: What is included? How large is it? How is it held? How does it fit? What happens during use? Which detail is difficult to understand in a static image? Then assign one or more shots to each question.

“Lifestyle image” and “beauty video” are not precise production instructions. “Show the grip at working scale” or “show how the sheet mask is positioned and smoothed” gives the camera, model, styling, and edit a measurable job.

04

Define placements and aspect ratios

List Amazon gallery, A+ Content, Shopify PDP, homepage hero, collection page, paid social, organic social, email, retail screen, distributor deck, or crowdfunding page as separate destinations. Add the required dimensions, duration, sound behavior, safe zones, and text needs.

One production can capture shared source material, but a landscape marketplace video and a native 9:16 social edit should not be treated as interchangeable files. Framing, pace, opening, and on-screen copy need to be planned for the final placement.

05

Separate visible proof from product claims

The studio can show packaging, scale, parts, texture, handling, application, and use context. Statements about health, safety, performance, durability, sustainability, certification, or comparative advantage require approved wording and substantiation from the brand.

Keep a simple claim register: approved claim, supporting source, allowed channel, required qualifier, and final approver. This lets designers reserve copy space without inventing benefit language during production.

06

Confirm the Shenzhen receiving route

Before dispatch, confirm the receiver, phone number, delivery address, package count, courier, tracking number, sender, product description, and expected date. Label the package with the project name and include a packing list when several SKUs or accessories are involved.

The studio should acknowledge arrival and check the delivered items against the agreed list before the shoot is scheduled. Any damage, color mismatch, missing part, or sample limitation should be documented immediately.

07

Assign review authority and revision stages

Name the person who can approve the shot plan, visual direction, rough edit, copy, retouching, and final delivery. Consolidate feedback from brand, marketplace, agency, and supplier teams before sending it to production.

Define what is reviewed at each stage. A contact sheet can confirm selection; a low-resolution proof can confirm retouching direction; a rough cut can confirm structure; and final masters should follow only after content and claims are approved.

08

Specify masters, derivatives, and archive needs

List final resolution, file type, aspect ratio, duration, background version, text and no-text variants, clean masters, captions, thumbnails, and platform derivatives. Decide whether layered design files, ungraded footage, selected B-roll, or source 3D assets are part of the scope.

Delivery should be organized by channel and purpose, not only by file number. Clear filenames make future reuse easier and reduce the chance that an outdated draft reaches a product page.

Three examples of questions becoming visible proof

These completed videos demonstrate different ways to translate a product brief into observable coverage. The case studies describe what is on screen and deliberately avoid unsupported sales or efficacy claims.

Common questions

Can a factory ship the sample directly to the studio?

Yes. Confirm the receiving path, product identity, package count, and timing before dispatch.

Does the client need to travel to China?

No. Briefing, sample confirmation, planning, review, revisions, and digital delivery can be handled online when responsibilities are clear.

What is the most important input?

A clear list of buyer questions and intended placements is more useful than visual references without context.

Should Amazon and Shopify assets be planned together?

They can share source material, but final crops, edit structure, text, compliance requirements, and aspect ratios should be planned for each channel.

Use this guide in the first inquiry

Send the eight gate answers you already have. Mark undecided points rather than guessing. 3200KStudio can then identify missing inputs, recommend a practical asset plan, and confirm the sample route before production is quoted and scheduled.
